Scene 1 – Outside the fire department מחוץ לתחנה מכבה אש

Hello everyone. Welcome to LOLenglish. Today we have a very special visit to a real fire department in Los Angeles, California.

שלום לכלם. ברוכים הבאים ללול-אנגלש. היום יש לנו ביקור מיוחד לתחנה מכבה אש אמיתי בלוס אנגלס, קליפורניה.

It is very exciting. We are going to hear about all the wonderful, amazing things it is to be a firefighter. And hear a little bit about the fire truck and the fire gear – the clothes that a fireman wears.

Scene 2 – Inside the fire department and fire truck.

הסצנה 2: בתוך התחנה מכבה אש

Aussie:  We are here in the fire station with our fire fighter…

אנחנו פה בתחנה אש עם הכבאית….

Britney: My name is Britney Peebay.

שמי בריטני פיביי

Assaf: This is Britney, and you are?

Captain: Captain Ricardo.

Assaf:  This is the Captain of the Fire station.

Captain:  Frank

Assaf: And they are going to show us a little bit about what it’s like to be in a fire station.

        So I’m going to let you take it away from here.

והם הולכים להראות לנו קצת על מה זה להיות בתחנה אש.

Britney: This one is called station 93. You can see by the big number on the gate outside.

זה נקרא תחנה 93. אפשר לראות לפי המספר בשער קדימה.

It also says it on all trucks it is assigned to.

So this is the trucks. This is an engine. And way back there is called the pump. And so there are different tools, different equipment on each and every single one. Does that kind of make sense?

אז אלו המסעיות. זה המנוע. ושם במרחק זה “הפאמפ” (שואב). ויש כל מיני כילים שונים, ציוד שונה על כל אחד ואחד. האם זה ברור?

So lets take a look at it here.

This is where the captain sits right here.

Assaf:  He sits in the front.

Britney: The captain sits right here.

Assaf: I’m going to go in. I’m going to go in. WOW, this is my first time in a fire truck.

This is crazy. Everything here is computerized.

We have a keyboard. And this is a walky-talky?

Captain:  A radio.

Assaf:  This is a radio.  This is exciting. Give me the camera. Give me the camera.

So you see, we have the computer, we have a radio, we have a keyboard. We have the captain’s seat over with the steering wheel, and all these interesting things.  Here is a helmet. And here we go.

WOW that was exciting. Does anyone want to sit in the seat? It’s a very comfortable seat. It’s very cushiony.  Come on who wants to go?

וואו. זה היה מרגש. האם משהוא רוצה לשבת בכיסא? זה כסא מאד נוח. מאד קושני. יאללה מי רוצה להכנס.

Britney:  Do you guys want to sit in the back?

Assaf:  It’s a limousine, (but not) with a lot more equipment.  Are you guys having fun?

Scene 5 – Fire fighter gear

Assaf:  Okay great. I got the socks with no holes.

אוקי מצוין. יש לי את הגברים בלי חורים.

Captain:  Put your foot in here.

שים את הרגל שלך פה.

Assaf:  Okay, I’m a size 14 by the way.

Captain: Okay, this is going to be tight. LOL

Assaf: I can do this.

Captain: Okay. Pull them up.

Assaf: Okay. I can’t believe that I’m doing this. So what is this? This is the real….

Captain: Yup, turnouts.

Assaf:  They have a name…. What are you laughing at?

Fire fighter: Turnout pants and turnout coats.

Assaf:  I’m in style. There is style to these firemen. Dad – hi.  Hi Mom.

Captain:  Hat. Hold on, put the hat back on.  Turn it around. I don’t want the sweat on me. LOL

Assaf: I hear you. It’s a hot day in sunny California. How do you like that one.

We got more. I feel like a real idiot.  Do you guys want to try one on? Feel better?

You guys want to put one on? You want to put one on? This is actually real heavy.

It must be really hard to run around in this.

Fireman:  Yeah, it is. It’s really close to protect us from the heat. There are three layers. Here are air pockets.

Britney: This is an ax.

Assaf: This is a real ax so be nice to me. I think in Hebrew it’s a garzen. So be good.

Fireman: So take that ax and wrap it around just like a belt.

Assaf:  Woo. This is so I can breathe.  I’m feeling a bit suffocated.

וואו זה כדי שאני אוכל לנשום. אני מרגיש די חנוק.

Captain:  So when you’re in the smoke, you’re able to breathe.

כאשר אתם נמצא בעשן, אתה יכול לנשום.

Assaf:  Be nice and no laughing because I have an ax.

This is a Kodak moment guys.

Captain: Now you have to grab a hundred, how much do we have? 78 pounds for one ladder.

Assaf:  So we’re going to go jogging right now and look for some real fires because why did we do all this if not to look for fires.

One of my questions that I asked the captain, I think it was the captain or another guy, is “Do you they prefer having a boring day at the fire station or do you want a day with a call for action.”  What do you guys say?

אחת מהשאלות שלי ששאלתי את הקפאטין, אני חושב שזה היה הקאפטין או איש אחר, האם אתם מעדיפים יום משעומם בתחנה או האם אתם רוצים עם טלפון לאקשין?

Firemen:  “The calls with the action!”

הטלפונים עם אקשין.

Assaf:  They want action! They came here with a job to do.

הם רוצים אקשין. הם באו לכאן עם עבודה לעשות.

Alright. Who wants to put on a jacket? Do you want to put on a jacket?

בסדר. מי רוצה לשים מעיל? האם את רוצה לשים מעיל?

Can you tell us a little bit about what this gear is?

האם תוכל לספר קצת על הבגדים האלו.

Captain: So this gear, you take this mask and put that on your face.

אז הבגד הזה, אתה לוקח את המסכה הזו ושם אותה על הפנים שלך.

Assaf:  It’s an oxygen mask?

זה מסכת חמצן?

Fireman: No, it’s just air.

לא זה רק אוויר.

Assaf: So it’s there to protect my face.

Captain: This is to breathe when there is smoke in your face.

Assaf: So that’s the oxygen.

Captain: That’s the air. What you are breathing now is in there.

This is a flashlight. We want to take a picture. Can we take a picture?

Captain:  We got to go.

Assaf: Is this a real alarm?

Captain: YES.

Assaf:  We wanted action.

Fireman: Pull this down.
